LUXWT Review
The beautiful, Palazzo style St. Regis Hotel rests in the historic district of Washington, D.C. The location is ideal for eager travelers looking to sightsee and take in all of the history and uniqueness of the city.
Welcomed with a champagne toast, The St. Regis champagne sabering is a ritual taking place at St. Regis Hotels throughout the world. The tradition started by founder, John Jacob Astor IV to commence the transition from afternoon to evening and welcome in the dinner hour. Sabering a bottle of champagne was inspired by his war hero, Napoleon, who was known for bringing champagne to war and sabering it open regardless of victory or defeat.
After champagne hour and a smooth check-in, an exquisite fifth floor suite became home. Fresh smells, bright and crisp views of the city flow through the room. The bedroom is spacious and inviting, the bathroom is stocked with all of the necessities, plenty of towels, and complimentary robes. The aesthetic of the room is relaxing and calming with subtle touches of history and elegant artwork.
After exploring the city, it was truly wonderful returning to The St. Regis. Despite the hustle and bustle of the city, The St. Regis seems unmoved by it and the ability to unwind and repose was effortless. A complimentary bottle of champagne and a platter of fresh berries and ornate chocolates were set out, a sweet, personal touch.
Brunch at The St. Regis’ restaurant, Alhambra was exceptional. The Traditional Eggs Benedict is somehow both savory, yet fresh and The French Toast features a delicious apple and cinnamon compote that doesn’t leave a heavy and full, post brunch feeling.
One could say it would be a crime to not indulge in one of The St. Regis’ Bloody Mary’s, since it is the signature cocktail of their brand. The Capital Mary veers from a traditional one with gin as its base and flavors that pull you towards the sea. Garnished with a jumbo shrimp, fresh lemon, celery, and olives, The Capital Mary is worth trying.
Aside from the rich history and sophistication of The St. Regis, the attention to detail from the hotel staff is impeccable. Thank you for a truly memorable stay.
HOTEL
Enjoying a well-earned reputation as Washington, D.C.’s best boutique hotel, The Jefferson has presided over the corner of 16th and M Streets since 1923, when the Beaux Arts gem opened as an apartment complex and later as a hotel for the world’s elite travelers and DC’s most important visitors.
Rich in historical details, this downtown Washington, D.C. hotel (four blocks from the White House) is both European and Washingtonian in style. Tributes to its namesake Thomas Jefferson and his beloved Monticello are found throughout. Areas of discovery unfold at every turn; private nooks, original Jefferson-signed documents, a Book Room filled with leather-bound volumes on Jefferson’s favorite subjects and signed editions by contemporary authors who have been among the hotel's distinguished guests.
Every member of the staff is dedicated to ensuring that each guest's stay is most enjoyable. The moment they arrive, guests are ushered to a comfortable chair for check-in. Individual needs are accommodated as when staying with a close friend at a private residence.
BEST OF THE BEST
In homage to its namesake president, The Jefferson stands as the beaux arts belle of the United States capital. Detailed crown moldings, fine woodwork and frescoes of Monticello are found throughout, as are period antiques and Thomas Jefferson–signed documents. The 99-guestroom hotel features high-tech touches such as Smart TVs and in-mirror bathroom televisions. The restaurant Plume, having received five stars from Forbes and its first Michelin star, ranks among D.C.'s finest.
